What's in our tampons
Our ingredients

The menstrual hygiene industry – aka pads and tampons – has never been required to disclose product ingredients or test their safety.
That’s right, those tampons you use for 5 days every month, in your most absorbent part of your body, won’t tell you what is actually in them. Read more about this here.
Most tampons and pads aren’t made from cotton. They’re made from synthetic materials, like rayon. They contain SAPs – Super Absorbent Polymers – derived from crude oil. Yuck! Oh and to top it off, they often contain wood pulp. We say nope!
We want your hoo-ha healthy
At The Periodical we prioritise your health.
Our ingredients are made from ethically sourced, 100% organic cotton. (Did you know cotton naturally absorbs up to 20 times their weight? Isn't nature the best?) It’s naturally breathable and hypoallergenic.
Also, we refuse to put bleach in our tampons. That stuff should not be going inside you! Besides, if you use 100% cotton, you don't need to bleach it.
Cotton is also pH compatible, which is pretty important if you’re putting it up your hoo-haa (you want to keep the pH of your hoo-ha balanced to avoid thrush).
It's is natural, renewable and sustainable. It’s not manufactured in a lab and it doesn’t contain plastic. It’s grown in nature and when you’re done, back to nature it goes.
Other conventional tampons use pesticides, dioxins and plastics to make their tampons. Small fibres from these tampons will break apart when they’re inside you. (Don’t believe us, you can test it by putting them in water for 8 hours). Our tampons won’t break apart toxins in your body.
We want our planet healthy
Conventional cotton is the dirtiest crop in the world. It uses more pesticides and insecticides than any other crop, contaminating soil, waterways, poisoning animals and destroying ecosystems.
Our organic cotton is grown with the purpose of reducing our impact on the environment. Certified cotton doesn’t use pesticides and insecticides. We want to preserve the natural synergy in our ecosystem.
Organic certification is the public’s assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict and safe procedures.
The Periodical packaging reduces plastic wrapping and is make from recycle cardboard. (Please recycle your box at the end).
The plastic wrapping on our tampons are required for hygiene purposes, but they can be recycled in soft plastics recycling.
Our tampons are biodegradable. They break down into simpler substances by bacteria and microorganisms.
